I have been teaching math and science since 2019 and I will work hard to provide you with the support and guidance required for you to be successful in this class. My focus on teaching science is not only to teach students how to solve problems, but also to help students understand the scientific principles behind the problems and show them how science is relevant in society. I have a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Reed College (Portland, Oregon) and a Ph.D. in environmental science and engineering from Oregon Graduate Institute of Science and Technology (Beaverton, Oregon). I spent over 30 years as a research scientist working at the Applied Physics Laboratory at the University of Washington, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Portland State University, and at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. My research projects investigated air-sea interaction, microwave remote sensing, trace detection of organic compounds, and chemistry of organic aerosols. For most of my career, I have been a field scientist and have conducted research using aircrafts, ships, ocean towers, and wind-wave tunnels. I live in Tacoma and enjoy bicycling, walking/hiking with my dog, and reading.
