With a rich background of over a decade in teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) across universities and colleges in the United States and English as a Foreign Language (EFL) abroad, my academic journey has been dedicated to the intricacies of language acquisition and intercultural communication. My teaching portfolio encompasses a wide range of subjects including ESL/EFL, Second Language Acquisition, Applied Linguistics, TESOL Methods, Discourse Analysis, and Intercultural Communication. These experiences have afforded me the opportunity to engage with diverse student populations, preparing them not only for academic success but also for the global communication demands of the 21st century.
My scholarly contributions in the field of second-language acquisition and TESOL have been shaped by both my academic and personal experiences. Originating from Iraq, where I obtained a Bachelor of Arts in English as a Foreign Language and a Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics, my educational journey took a pivotal turn in the United States. Here, I furthered my expertise with a Master of Education in TESOL and a Doctorate in Literacy and Second Language Studies from the University of Cincinnati, Ohio.
As a member of Highline College's English Language Career and Academic Preparation (ELCAP) faculty, I am eager to bring my extensive background and passion for language teaching and intercultural dialogue to the department. My vision aligns with the department's commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment that prepares students for the linguistic and cultural diversity of our global community. I am enthusiastic about the opportunity to contribute to the ELCAP department's mission, leveraging my academic foundation and teaching to enrich the educational experiences of our students.
