Hello everyone, and welcome to my ESOL class! My name is Lijun Shen, and I speak Mandarin Chinese, the Shanghai dialect, and English. I was born and raised in Shanghai, China, where I attended college and earned a bachelor's degree in English literature.

I moved to the United States in 1986 to further my studies. I graduated from the University of Washington with both a Master's and Doctoral degree in Education, specializing in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), Curriculum & Instruction, and Reading. Since 1993, I have taught Academic Reading and ESOL at various community colleges. I have also taught at Seattle University, training students who aspire to become ESOL teachers. I began my career at Highline College in 1997, and I’ve been teaching college-level Academic Reading and ESOL ever since.

In my free time, I enjoy reading, cooking, and traveling around the world. I am passionate about teaching, and my goal is to help all of you achieve your goals. I’m thrilled to have you in my class and to learn together. I wish you all a successful quarter!
