BIOGRAPHY: ABOUT ME
Stephanie culturally identifies as Salvadoreña, Mexicana, and American. She was raised in Bakersfield, CA where she grew up working with her family at their clothing factory and selling at markets. She completed a B.A., M.A., and Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Writing at California State University, Bakersfield. After college, Stephanie moved to the San Francisco area to work as an adjunct English teacher at two colleges while substituting in K-12 districts. In 2014, Stephanie moved to Des Moines, WA for a tenured English faculty role at Highline College. Throughout her career, Stephanie has participated in student outreach programs such as TRIO, Umoja, and Puente. She’s also facilitated professional development on the West coast and nationally on topics such as literature, assessment, culturally responsive teaching practices, supporting Latine students and educators, Pleasure Activism, and much more.

Stephanie’s passion as an educator is improving educational access and equity for students and educators. Outside of work, Stephanie enjoys reading, yoga, gardening, raising chickens, and imagining ways for loved ones and community to experience rest, wellness, and healing.
