I am passionate about arts education and bringing communities together, always with a lens of advocacy and social justice in decolonizing the way arts have been taught in our schools.
Over the years, I have encountered many students of all ages often have negative arts making experiences that impedes further exploration into creative thinking that perpetuates the way historically arts education has been used to support privilege and the colonization of creativity. Incorporating art and artists that reflect our global world can help build relationships and makes mindful intentional inclusion of student voice. Therefore, providing space for creative experiences to foster art making as a form of social justice. An emphasis on creativity, social emotional well-being, and inclusiveness continues to be a cornerstone in my teaching journey.
