Hi, I’m Jenessa Joy,
a professor at Highline College with a background in both nursing and business. I began my academic journey at Highline College, where I earned an AA in Literature and an AAS in Pre-Nursing. I went on to complete my nursing program at Bellevue College and later earned my MSN from Johns Hopkins University, where I am currently pursuing my MBA.
In addition to my work in healthcare, I am the owner of Mighty Mugs Coffee, a growing chain of coffee shops. Prior to that, I worked as a barista for 10 years, an experience that shaped my passion for leadership, customer service, and community connection.
My clinical experience includes working at Seattle Children’s Hospital in the Psychiatric Behavioral Medicine Unit (PBMU), serving as a charge nurse in field hospitals during the COVID-19 pandemic, and working as a medical-surgical nurse at Swedish Hospital in Seattle. I bring this diverse real-world experience into the classroom, helping students connect theory to practical application.
I am passionate about supporting student success and creating an engaging, inclusive learning environment where students feel confident to grow. I enjoy mentoring students as they develop the skills needed for their careers and their communities.
