Dr. Juan Felipe Gutiérrez Sanin is a physician, educator, content creator, curriculum developer, instructor, thought leader and public health professional. His extensive professional career has consisted of developing, implementing and managing educational resources for healthcare programs aimed at fostering diversity and inclusion reducing disparities and improving access and quality of health services for low income, highutilizing, populations, especially immigrants and refugees with limited English Proficiency.
Dr. Gutiérrez holds a Medical Degree from Universidad Javeriana in Colombia, is a specialist in Occupational Safety and Health Administration of Universidad del Rosario also in Colombia and holds a master’s degree in public health from Western Kentucky University. Dr. Gutiérrez is fully proficient in English and Spanish. He has been a trainer of medical interpreters, caregivers and healthcare professionals for over 20 years. He has also been a subject matter expert, guest instructor and curriculum developer of continuing education courses for different organizations over the years.
He has presented at over 20 professional national conferences. He has created multiple credited and non-credited training courses for community health workers, patient advocates, home care aids and medical interpreters.
He is certified as an Adult and Youth instructor of Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) since 2017, in both English and Spanish. He was recognized as a top Mental Health First Aid instructor in 2022, 2023 and 2024 by the National Council for Mental Wellbeing. He has often worked in conjunction with multiple federal and state agencies and local communities. He currently serves as Home Care Program Manager and director of the Healthcare Interpreter Program at Highline College. He also serves as subject matter expert for several online continuing education courses for home care aides and other care providers. He is an active member of NAMI Seattle, and of the Villa de Leyva (Colombia) Rotary Club, where he works promoting mental health programs in rural Colombia.
